Dragon Monument

Mostly inspired by the Pokémon Tower from Pokemon franchise, the so-called Dragon Monument is a graveyard (as well as a memorial) for reptiles victimized human exploitation.

First seen in “Reptilia Squad Gaiden” and “Reptilia Squad Multiplayer”, they remain as hitodama not far away from their respective tombs, possibly lost in memories of their lives, becoming extremely hostile to any unwanted visitors.

Most ghosts haunt cemeteries and forests, whereas the most powerful ones (Grisly Chimeras) actually inhabit buildings.

They are passive, initially neutral entities.

Some characters can communicate directly with them, as demonstrated by Lenin himself.

In a similar way to Phanto from Super Mario Bros. 2, the ghosts ceaselessly chase their target throughout the map, often following them  through different screens and rooms (except for the Boss Rooms).

When angered, they often shape shift into skull-like wraiths, which resemble the ones from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence and Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, except for being actually reptiles.

In Reptilia Squad Multiplayer, the ghosts serve as obstacles for the Heroes of Rio de Janeiro, also posing as an actual Drop-In Nemesis.

Trivia:

  • The ghosts were inspired by the Boos from the Mario franchise, not to mention the Phantos from the same universe.
  • The ghosts were further inspired by the ones from Pokémon Firered, having been given a haunted cemetery much like the Pokémon Tower and Mt. Pyre, as well as the ghosts from Alone in the Dark.
  • The so-called Grisly Chimeras are inspired by the Coverns from Super Metroid.
  • The ghosts are first seen in “Reptilia Squad Gaiden”, as well as the Dragon Monument itself.
  • During the battle against Lenin at the Dragon Monument (in the minigame with the Heroes of Rio de Janeiro), the ghosts show themselves as hitodama surrounding the albino Komodo dragon, actually watching the boss battle until the very end.
  • In the Chanbara minigame, several ghosts are seen watching the fight, actually mocking the Heroes of Rio de Janeiro for their deaths and, also, congratulating Lenin (or any other protagonist) for his victories.
  • Ghosts laugh mockingly (and eerie) as their victims die.
  • Mega-Lenin (Bloodstained Bandages) is surrounded by ghosts, although they don’t attack the enemies anyway. However, they still laugh eerie as the enemies are killed.
